Rumah Orang- Orang Tua Seri Setia is a non-government old folk home at Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The home was officially established in 1966 by Tun Abdul Razak, the deputy prime minister at the time. The home now depends on the generosity of donors to sustain their daily operations. The elderly there are given assistance with day to day living, whereby their basic essential needs such as healthcare, meals and safety are secured in the home. The home was shifting over to a brand-new block and needed assistance to clean the new premise to safely accommodate the elderly in a hygienic environment.
On 9th March 2019, Universal Peak Sdn Bhd and group of company decided to pay a visit at Rumah Orang-Orang Tua Seri Setia. Though the condition of the new premise was rather grimy, dusty and unmaintained due to it being vacant for a long time before. Our company was determined to try and improve the quality of the elderly folks lives in the newly found home, by organizing “Communal Work” at the new premise as part of our CSR initiatives. The entire company got involved in the cleaning including our very own company Director Mr. Raj Kumar. Together the entire UP family got into respective teams and were in-charge in making sure different areas of the home were cleaned well before they moved into it.
The special day began 9.15 am with breakfast meals for everyone at the home inclusive of all our staff. Once the breakfast was done the first activity was to clean their new building which they will be moving into very soon. The staff were divided into two (2) cleaning group teams, Team A and Team B. Team A was assigned to clean up at the first floor meanwhile Team be was assigned to clean the second floor. The next activity was a specially catered “Healthcare and Dentalcare for the Elderly” talk session. The session was an interactive one where the company had arranged for professionals to guide the elderly there on “Healthcare & Proper Dental Hygiene” using props to for demonstration. One of the professionals was in fact the company Director’s own son Sujeysan Raj Kumar. It was a success for upon the completion of the session we could see the smiles that we put on many of their faces.
The activities encouraged further bonding and cultivated team work amongst the staff. With the most challenging part of the day completed by this point, it was time for some fun. The third activity on the schedule was spending time with the old-folks in the home and during this time there was a great session where the company handed out groceries and hampers to the elderly.
Lastly, the entire day of hard work and fun times spent together was concluded with a hearty lunch sponsored by the company for both the staff and the home as well. By the end of the day we felt that the objective of this CSR program which was aiming to provide better quality of life to the elderly in their newly found home was achieved and that feeling was indeed a priceless one for each member of the UP family.
