The environmental impacts of flashover phenomenon on the insulators

The environmental impacts such as uniform and non-unform pollution, ambient pressure (altitude), temperature, fog, mist, etc. are contributing factors of flashover phenomenon on different types of electrical insulators made of glass, porcelain, and composite polymer, as well as of silicon rubber. In this review work, it was attempted to compile different available literatures from past elven (11) years on flashover due to the above-mentioned environmental impacts on flashover phenomenon of insulators based on national and international studies. Experimental and modelling studies revealed that major contributing factors related to environmental impacts comprise flashover phenomenon on insulators, which affected the electricity transmission system. Moreover, it is emphasized that porcelain insulator is comparatively better than silicon rubber insulator. It is suggested that different types of insulators should be compared with individual pollutants and some abiotic factors.
