At Universal Peak Sdn. Bhd., safety is more than a compliance requirement, it is a responsibility that reflects our commitment to our employees, clients and the communities we serve. As part of our continuous learning and development initiatives, we successfully organised a Basic Occupational First Aid (BOFA), CPR & AED Training on 19–20 June 2026 at the Wisma UP Training Room.

The comprehensive two-day programme was conducted by Bumi Safety Academy, led by experienced trainers Dr. Nithya Naidu Nadarajan and Mr. Muhammad Azrul Bin Mohd Akbar, who delivered a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge and practical emergency response training.

Equipping Our Team with Life-Saving Skills

Emergencies can happen unexpectedly, whether in the workplace, at project sites or in public spaces. Having employees who know how to respond effectively during the critical first few minutes can make a significant difference in protecting lives and reducing the severity of injuries.

The BOFA programme was designed to strengthen participants' understanding of emergency response by enabling them to:

  • Conduct a systematic scene survey and patient assessment.
  • Recognise common injuries and sudden illnesses.
  • Prioritise appropriate first aid treatment.
  • Demonstrate effective first aid management for various emergency situations.
  • Perform Lay Rescuer Basic Life Support, including CPR and choking management.

By combining classroom learning with practical application, participants developed both the knowledge and confidence needed to respond quickly and appropriately during emergencies.

Learning Through Practical Experience

A key highlight of the training was its strong emphasis on hands-on learning. Rather than focusing solely on theory, participants actively practised real-life emergency response techniques through guided demonstrations, simulations and role-playing exercises.
The practical sessions covered:

  • Step-by-step CPR using the DRCAB approach.
  • Patient assessment and recovery position techniques.
  • Safe and effective operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • First aid management for bleeding, wounds, burns and scalds.
  • Dressing and bandaging techniques.
  • Group case studies and emergency simulation drills.
  • Post-training theory assessment to reinforce learning outcomes.

These practical exercises allowed participants to apply their knowledge in realistic scenarios, helping them build confidence and improve decision-making under pressure.

Learning from Industry Professionals

Universal Peak extends its sincere appreciation to Bumi Safety Academy and our dedicated trainers for delivering an engaging and impactful programme.

Dr. Nithya Naidu Nadarajan, an experienced medical doctor and trainer, shared valuable expertise in emergency response, First Aid, Basic Life Support, Paediatric Advanced Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support. Her practical approach enabled participants to better understand emergency medical principles while encouraging confidence in responding to real-life situations.

Complementing the programme, Mr. Muhammad Azrul Bin Mohd Akbar, an experienced First Aid Trainer and Instructor, conducted interactive practical sessions covering First Aid, CPR, AED and Basic Life Support. His background in sports science, lifeguarding and emergency preparedness provided participants with practical insights and techniques that can be applied both inside and outside the workplace.

Three Core Lessons Learned

Throughout the programme, participants gained several valuable insights that extend beyond technical knowledge.

1. Preparedness saves lives.

Understanding how to assess a situation quickly and respond appropriately can significantly improve outcomes during emergencies.

2. Practical training builds confidence.

Hands-on practice through simulations and role-playing enables participants to remain calm, make informed decisions and perform life-saving interventions effectively.

3. Safety is everyone's responsibility.

Creating a safer workplace requires every individual to be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to act when emergencies occur.
